Facebook Mobile App Ads – Title will be pulled from app store

Facebook Mobile App Ads – Title will be pulled from app store

Starting Wednesday March 12th, in all of Facebook’s Mobile App Ads, the text that shows next to the app icon for all mobile app ads will be automatically pulled in from the App Store or Google Play depending on which platform the mobile app ad is for. The text that shows next to the app icon will no longer be editable. This will affect all existing mobile app ads as well as any mobile app ads created on or after March 12th.
Currently we use a field during ad creation of Mobile App ads called ‘Title’ in the ad creation area
The text entered in the ‘Title’ field for mobile app install ads shows next to the app icon(at the Top left corner of the ad) for all mobile app ads. Specifically for mobile app install ads this text also shows next to the Install Now button(on the bottom left corner of the ad). This applies to all types of Mobile App Ads.

Key things you should know
  • The Title of your Mobile App Ad will no longer be editable.
  • Title length on the ad spec is 32 characters. Facebook has confirmed that ‘We show the app name in one line. Whatever fits that line we end up showing. This is approximately 32 Latin characters, following by a “…” showing the person that the title is longer than what is displayed in the ad’. This would mean it would be wise to check your app names on your stores, and to edit them if you intend to use them in Mobile App ads.
  • The localized version of the app store name will be pulled from the app store based on the viewer’s locale.
  • This update will apply for desktop app ads as well. The app name will be pulled from what is configured in the FB app settings.
  • This will affect all existing mobile app ads starting March 12th as well as any mobile app ads created on or after March 12th.
  • Concentrate on engaging images with persuasive text
  • Make sure your App name on the app store is not too generic to stand out from your competition. More useful tips here
  • Try and get at least 250 ratings in the App Center to get star ratings appearing in your ad to improve conversion rates
  • if you are running multi-language campaigns, make sure you have indicated App names in the appropriate languages in your App Store or Google Play settings
Facebook has stated that they are making this change as the text next to the app icon is intended to represent the app name. By pulling the name directly from the respective app store, it is intended to avoid any misrepresentation in this text field. This will drive consistency between the advertisement seen by someone in News Feed and the app they view in an app store.
